In long-term care we are all familiar with the [annual] survey. Some of us worry about survey, some treat it like any other day, and then there are those that really worry about survey. While we should certainly have some degree of awareness of survey time, the 'golden rule' is to always be survey ready.

When I was 22 and working in a nursing home, as a social worker, I didn't realize how much Eliza was teaching me. She had dementia. I spent time with her everyday and everyday she met a new friend (me). In her decline, I tried to make as many happy moments for her, for her family.
