Peggy Farrington

Peggy Farrington has a deep commitment to working with long-term care facilities, a commitment that she has been able to transform into developing strategies that help facilities overcome deficits to succeed. She began her career in 1995 at Sunrise Care Facility and over the years has worked in a variety of long-term care settings, leaving each better than when she arrived. Her most recent assignment resulted in moving a nursing home from being rated one star by CMS to receiving four stars within two years.

From 2015 to 2021 Peggy led Saint Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Residence in Portland, Maine. She began as interim administrator and then was appointed administrator based on her record of instituting and employing innovative programs focused on providing compassionate, quality care for residents. Prior to arriving at Saint Joseph’s, Farrington, a Lubec native, served as the administrator for Piper Shores, a non-profit continuing care retirement community in Scarborough; ELR Care Maine/Sandy River Company in Penobscot; First Atlantic Healthcare in Machias and Ellsworth; Sunrise Care Facility in Jonesport; and Eastport Memorial Nursing Home in Eastport. She earned master’s degrees in health administration from the University of New Hampshire and in public health from the University of New England, and holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science/human services from the University of Maine at Machias.

One of the things she learned early on is that relationships truly matter in this field—relationships between colleagues, between residents, between families. Peggy’s process includes working to build and foster those relationships because having them leads to better results and outcomes. She also firmly believes in educating, coaching, and mentoring those she works with so that once the hard work of turning things around is done, it can be sustained.

I know the ins and outs of the CMS rating systems and what is needed to bring about improvements. I look forward to sharing my expertise and proven track record with any facility in need of support and a solid plan for improvement.”
